Diedrich Coffee Roasting Equipment

The Diedrich family has been a part of the coffee, tea and cocoa trade for three generations. The family began growing in the Antigua region of Guatemala in 1912 and today is recognized for their expertise in every facet of the coffee industry.


Carl Diedrich, Sr., was involved in growing coffee from an early age and in the early 1960s, developed the first Diedrich roaster. The growing and nurturing skills he learned from his parents were in turn passed along to his sons, Martin, Stephan and Carl, Jr., who were also raised on the plantation.

The family moved from Guatemala to Orange County, California in 1972 and opened the first Diedrich Coffee house in Newport Beach. Martin took over the retail and wholesale business in 1982, which has grown to more than 60 coffee houses throughout the country. Stephan who acquired his father’s mechanical abilities, and Carl, Jr. founded Diedrich Manufacturing Company in 1980 to build the Diedrich coffee roasting equipment.

The roasting methods developed over generations by the Diedrich family maximize the inherent flavor of all coffees. Applying the correct combination of heat, airflow and timing, Diedrich roasters create the optimum environment for every varietal of coffee bean. This technology enables complete control over the roasting environment, accommodating the differences in growing altitudes, cultivation techniques and processing methods as well as bean size, density and moisture content.

Nesco Home Coffee Roasting Machine Movie Demonstration

sweetmarias.com has the latest model of the Nesco Home Coffee Roaster, an innovative design that features an auger-driven agitator in the roast chamber, and quiet operation (about the same as a FreshRoast, and much quieter than Hearthware machines).

This machine has had a name change not too long ago, from Zach and Dani’s (a proprietary name given the machine by the company that sold it), to Nesco, the actual manufacturer.

This is a home roaster, period. I like this model, and recommend it highly with a few conditions. To be exact, I feel there are a couple drawbacks to the machine: dark roasts take a long time and the roaster might have trouble attaining a full French roast in some situations (namely, on circuits with voltage below 110v – see our extended review for more details).

Starbucks, Green Mountain in partnership talks

Starbucks wants dominant position in single-cup market – Green Mountain’s Keurig brewer now dominates segment – Green Mountain shares jump on news of negotiations (Recasts to add Starbucks talks; adds LOS ANGELES to dateline, bylines)

Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O) and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR.O)have been in “ongoing partnership negotiations”, a source close to the talks told Reuters on Monday, sending Green Mountain stock surging.

Starbucks, the world’s biggest coffee chain, wants to be a big player in the new and fast-growing single-serve coffee segment that Green Mountain currently dominates with its Keurig one-cup brewers.

Starbucks on Sunday said it planned to announce a new product for the single-cup coffee market in the near future, reviving speculation of a tie-up between the two companies.

7) Finished Pan Roasting in about 15 minutes

In about 15 minutes this is what we had. At this stage continue to pick out the bad kernels of coffee. I check for hollowed out kernels at this stage, these are easier to see at this stage.
*Note that a bad seed or coffee bean can ruin or contribute to souring a cup of coffee and or your shot of espresso. Give this process your attention, the fruits of your rewards are a really great – fresh cup of coffee. I do not think I will ever be able to sip a Dunkin coffee in the same way again after having roasted my own coffee.

It is customary for at least one of them to offer the words, “Tu bun” (Pronounced similar to “Too Boon”), meaning “good coffee”. If this compliment is not offered, then the coffee-making girl must go back and start over.
